Back in the day, I first used InGear ActiveX control for the GE line of controls which was a serial control. Then it was the Ethernet control from InGear. It was developed using VB 6.0 with the Win32 API. Then moved on to VB.Net and also used the InGear net control, and the ActiveX control also. Years later developed an application using the ASComm.net object.
My personal preference is ASComm.net. The visual setup is easy. Declare all your tags and locations in one place and call them in your code. The object polling response is fast. The app was reading and writing to three GE 90-30 PLC’s with the 372 CPU’s. Still running today. Hardware was an Axiom Industrial PC running Win7.
