I am trying to assign an IP address to my used Micrologix 1100 1763-L16BWA PLC controller.  BOOTP/DHCP server starts and see the MAC address.  When I add it to the relation list and type in an IP address that is available on my network, it seems to work properly.  The new entry in the relation list is added and I get a message indicating the IP address was sent to the device.  However, the IP address never takes.  The 1100 screen under enet cfg always shows the MAC address with -.-.-.- as the IP address.

From what I am reading, this should be enough to get an IP address initially assigned to the PLC.  I have tried this many different ways with many different IP addresses and I can’t get anything to work.  I am starting to think something is wrong with my PLC, but don’t know how to confirm.

      Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks.

Hi Garet_Jax and welcome to the forums.

Yes I feel your pain with BOOTP. Try this, after you assign the micrologix IP and it’s added to the relation list make sure you go to the “Tools” menu item and “Disable BOOTP” option. Once the transfer is successful make sure your reboot (power cycle) the Micrologix. I did a YouTube Video several moons ago…let us know how it goes…

Didn’t realize that is your video.  I saw it some time ago and have tried following it.  Thanks for taking the time to create the video and to help me here.  Whether I try to disable BOOTP or DHCP, I get the following error.

When I first started up the PLC, it already had an IP address from the previous owner.  After connecting it to RSLogix Micro and downloading a ladder logic program.  The system told me to reboot the device.  When it came back up the IP address was gone and I have been stuck here ever since.  I am worried the “reboot” damaged the PLC.

If the controller already has an IP, configure your computer on the same subnet then use RSLinx to go into the Module Properties. Set the IP address to the new IP address from here. It’s been a while since I’ve used a MicroLogix1100 but give that a try and forget about BootP.

The other option is to pull out the trusty RS-232 cable, go in serial and set the IP that way…

I have had mixed results with BOOTP, I usually just use the buttons on the PLC to go to ethernet configuration, and manually enter an address/subnet/gateway there, always works first time.
